Just two days today, with a 35-mile hike into the precipitous descent into Port Clinton.
Trigger and I are still together and, as you can see, he has reached for his bug net to keep the flies and mozzies at bay and away from his face.
We meet a French Canadian hiker who is taking a novel journey back home and respond to an email from a listener who is concerned at the vitriol on Facebook. As you’d imagine, I have an opinion.

Steve- Just discovered your podcast the other day. Absolutely love it! I just finished episode #6. I am so inspired by you and appreciate your honesty and openness. Bravo!
I am 48 and I am hoping to do the AT over the next 2 years to celebrate turning 50. I have a teenager & hubby at home (can’t do the full 6 months) so I am thinking of doing it in 4 sections over 2 years, maybe even a flip flop. I would love to know what you and other hikers think about a route or plan that might work splitting the AT into four sections. (But feel free to wait to respond …I know you are a bit busy right now). ?
In all of my searching online I haven’t found a good resource for section hiking large parts of the AT for a month or more at one time.
I don’t mind camping when it’s cold, I am a hammock camper & I would want to do it it 6 weeks at a time.
I Iike my alone time, but as a solo female hiker I also like the idea of being near others at night. Maybe 6 weeks in spring 2020, 6 weeks fall 2020 and then 6 weeks spring 2021 & six weeks fall 2021. It would be cool to finish at Katahdin.
Best of luck to you and everyone else on the trail right now!
Beth
Beth, with those dates I’d probably simply go from south to north consecutively. You’ll miss the brutal heat of summer, which would certainly be a blessing. Best of luck.
Great recent episodes Steve. We’re enjoying each one.
Thank you,
