Episode #159 – Appalachian Trail (Days 97 to 100)

We’ve had a productive few days, including the longest day I’ve ever done on the AT.

Trigger and I are currently a 2-person “tramily” as Cushy and Dodger Dog are a day ahead. We’ve supported one another and kept each other honest as hikers. The miles are melting away and I’m speculating that I’ll finish earlier than I’d previously imagined.

  1. That first picture looks like it is just before the 501 shelter. And having a cold one at the Doyle! That area is the 25 mile a day highway until you get to Port Clinton, then it’s Rocksylvania!

  2. Great to hear about Swatara Gap. That was my jump point in 2004, after hiking from Springer I jumped from Swatara to Caratunk where I finished the last 150 miles of the AT. Also that was the day a tornado touched down not far from Swatara while we were taking shelter in the culvert under the highway. You might also know that the first solo thruhiker, Earl Shaffer, finished the entire trail in1948 in 99 days. Trail was about 160 miles shorter then. Cheers!
