The past three days have taken us through Maryland to the edge of Pennsylvania. It didn’t turn out to be the easy state I’d remembered.
We were honored to have the company of Laurie Potteiger from ATC as our hiking companion for part of the first day and she was a charming and informative guide to all things AT.
Another member of the class of 2019 passed me and I was reminded once more that it isn’t the big animals that you need to watch out for.

I am enjoying your podcasts – but I usually leave notes on YT.I got a membership in the ATC and bought a wall map, so I have it and the PCT up in my hallway, to help me to follow along with my YT hikers. Summer hasn’t even started yet and you are entering PA. You can saunter up to Katahdin now. Happy Trails.
Wolf spiders are your friend
That is the second grossest spider I’ve ever seen!
I love the toe picture!
